Where to start?

Post by bradnjones »

I am a total beginner, and have not started learning Greek but want to teach myself! I don't have a lot of money to spend on this (i.e. teaching myself rather than formal schooling). I was wondering what you might recommend for me? I was told that Rodney Decker's "Reading Koine Greek" and Mathewson's "Intermediate Greek Grammar" were good places to start. Do you have any other recommendations as to where to start? What does a good study plan look like? (percentage of time spent on Reading/Vocab/Grammar/etc...??? during a study session). How often should I study? Are there any good resources I should tap into (besides this forum) for input/reference/etc... When should I get a Greek copy of the NT and which one is best for a beginner? How do I avoid the common statement that "those who know a little Greek are dangerous". What expectations should I have for this journey? Anything you can provide me to help me get started would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much and God bless.
