Abbreviations

Post by Ryan Terry »

I am just wondering if it is possible and if so how one would use an abbreviation for the words Ἀδελφός and Ἀδελφέ like how in Latin Fra. would be Frater and Sor. Sister.

Thanks

In the New Testament manuscripts that I'm familiar with, there isn't a standard abbreviation for ἀδελφός, ἀδελφή. Maybe there is one in Modern Greek.

It you want to come up with one that follows the ancient system of abbreviation (contraction), it would be Αδος and Aδη, with a straight line over the abbreviation.
