Luke 8:27 ἐξελθόντι δὲ αὐτῷ ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν

It seems to me that ἐξελθόντι δὲ αὐτῷ ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν in Luke 8:27 functions as contextualizer like Mk 5:2 καὶ ἐξελθόντος αὐτοῦ ἐκ τοῦ πλοίου. Marshal (Luke NIGTC 1979) suggests that Luke "corrected" the genitive absolute to a dative. I can sort of understand that, ὑπήντησεν takes a dative argument. But in terms of discourse function the dative participle clause would serve the same function as the genitive, would it not?

Matt.

Yes, it should have the same discourse function.
