Another thought: if people are comfortable only with Greek, we could do this tag-team, with one person doing Greek and another Latin. Please note the ligated forms of the Latin, a-e and o-e. Since these are unique characters, we should encode them as such, not as 'ae', etc.

Does the Latin need doing too? It would be letter-by-letter, I don't have pattern recognition skills in Latin.

Yes. But I bet you could do it.

Well, I could do this one this afternoon (Thursday afternoon).

We insert the Æ/æ, Œ/œ, right?

On Windows boxes, the following characters can be entered by holding down the ALT key and simultaneously typing in the following numbers:

æ is Alt + 0230
Æ is Alt + 0198
œ is Alt + 0156
Πis Alt + 0140

Good scan of a misprint??

Post by Stephen Hughes » May 23rd, 2014, 12:43 am

line 29 ends with
ἐπαινετὸς,
which is what Migne typeset, but it is wrong.

Should I correct Migne's Greek?

I don't know what you mean by "wrong" but Migne usually keeps the grave before a comma. The accentuation of oxytones before punctuation and which one is a matter where there is some room for differences in editorial practice. As for this exercise, it is about training the character recognition, not tiding up Migne's Greek according to a different editorial standard.

I'm out of my depth in the Latin...

I've got a handle on the Greek, I have almost no idea what I am doing when it comes to the Latin in this project.

Feel free to provide corrected Greek and leave the Latin as is. Someone else can do that.
