And what is "ἀπώλεκα"?

συγνώμην ἔχε. κακῶς γὰρ ἔγραψα. ἐδεῖ οὖν με γεγραφεναι τὸ «ἀπόλωλε,» τουτ έστιν τὸ «νεκρός ἐστιν.»
Are you asking about the mood?
πῶς γὰρ οὐ?
...there is essentially no difference in meaning here.
συμφάμενὸς μὲν οὖν σοι, ὦ ἄριστε Δαυιδ, φήμι δὴ τὴν διαφορὴν τοῦ «ὀφθαλμός...ᾖ» καὶ «τὸ φῶς... ἐστίν» εὐφωνικὴν μὲν εἶναι, σημανικὴν δ’ οὐ.

καλῶς ἔχοις.
