Something eludes me. Why is "μηδεν" not in agreement with "α"?
Rev 2:10 μηδέν

Re: Rev 2:10
Per BDAG μηδείς 2bβ (p. 647), μηδέν = in no way

μηδέν doesn't seem so strong here
It seems weaker than examples like:Stephen Carlson wrote:Per BDAG μηδείς 2bβ (p. 647), μηδέν = in no way
Compare this instance, though, where οὐ is used different to
Mark 14:60 wrote:Καὶ ἀναστὰς ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς εἰς μέσον ἐπηρώτησεν τὸν Ἰησοῦν, λέγων, Οὐκ ἀποκρίνῃ οὐδέν; Τί οὗτοί σου καταμαρτυροῦσιν;

Ah I see. That makes perfect sense, though I don't have BDAG.Stephen Carlson wrote:Per BDAG μηδείς 2bβ (p. 647), μηδέν = in no way
Thanks for the examples!Stephen Hughes wrote:It seems weaker than examples like:Stephen Carlson wrote:Per BDAG μηδείς 2bβ (p. 647), μηδέν = in no wayLuke 4:35 wrote:Καὶ ἐπετίμησεν αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς, λέγων, Φιμώθητι, καὶ ἔξελθε ἐξ αὐτοῦ. Isn't this just the double negative, where "ουκ αποκρινη ουδεν" just means "do you not answer anything?"Stephen Hughes wrote:Compare this instance, though, where οὐ is used different to οὐδένMark 14:60 wrote:Καὶ ἀναστὰς ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς εἰς μέσον ἐπηρώτησεν τὸν Ἰησοῦν, λέγων, Οὐκ ἀποκρίνῃ οὐδέν; Τί οὗτοί σου καταμαρτυροῦσιν;

Re: μηδέν doesn't seem so strong here
Well, there is a tendency to overuse the negatives and weaken them. This may be one of them. In fact, the modern Greek negative δεν comes from a weakened οὐδέν, which ousted οὐ. This diachronic development of the negative is known as Jespersen's Cycle (cf. the development from Old French ne to modern French pas; from Old English ne to modern English not).Stephen Hughes wrote:It seems weaker than examples likeStephen Carlson wrote:Per BDAG μηδείς 2bβ (p. 647), μηδέν = in no way
