ilasmov

Post by mlrolfe »

Reading in 1 john. In chapter4 the work of God in Jesus Christ is clearly stated. But in verse 10 there is the word "ilasmon" which used to describe the offering of Christ - sin offering. This word must have had significance and meaning to the ancient greeks and there should be uses of this word in the Septuagint - especially in the Pentateuch. How can the Septuagint be searched to find the various uses of ilasmon.

I'm sure Logos or Accidence or any of those programs would do it.

Using the freebie MacSword program, I found:

Leviticus 25:9 • Numbers 5:8 • Psalm 130:4 • Ezekiel 44:27 • Daniel 9:9 • Amos 8:14

Try http://lexicon.katabiblon.com/. You type in the word and get a result like this. If you click on the [Find LXX Verses] button, you can see all the verses with the word in context.

Do you realise that the "v"-looking letter is the Greek "n". If you use a search engine on "ilasmon" you will get some results.
