Commentary on LXX Isaiah

Post by Louis L Sorenson »

Someone on the Yahoo LXX site has given us Ottley's commentary on the Septuagint Isaiah. And a much smaller pdf version.

Here’s a link to a Ottley, The Book of Isaiah According to the Septuagint that has been reduced in file size (16MB in comparison to the 50+MB on archive.org). It still has both volumes in one file, but I was able to crunch it through a program that reduced the PDF size considerably.http://ifile.it/v8kehsf (Click the “request download ticket” button and then click the “download” button once the page reloads.)

I think the LXX Isaiah would be a very interesting read. I always try to use a commentary on the Greek when I read a book. How does Ottley rate? Are there any other LXX Isaiah commentaries? Does anyone out there who has read through Isaiah have any suggestions? My Hebrew is pretty rough.

Ottley is the best commentary on Greek Isaiah there is at this point. Two commentaries are in the works, one by Arie van der Kooij, in the SBL Commentary on the Septuagint series (see http://ccat.sas.upenn.edu/ioscs/commentary/authors.html), and the other by me, in Brill's Septuagint Commentary Series (see http://www.brill.nl/publications/septua ... ary-series).
