Herodas Mime 7 Question

Post by Wes Wood » October 10th, 2016, 7:46 pm

I recorded this in a notebook some time ago during a search for potential words to use for common household items. In this case it appears that I was looking for a Greek word for "cabinet." My note says that the snippet comes from Herodas Mime 7, but I only recorded the Greek text. Most likely, this means that my source did not have an English translation. The Greek itself doesn't *seem* hard (though I could be mistaken), but I have no idea what two of these words mean. I couldn't find them in Perseus. Here is the text and a stiff translation. Any help would be appreciated, even if only a suggestion of a Classical/Koine word for "cabinet."
Pίστε τὴν ἄνω ἀνοίξας πυργῖδα, μὴ τὴν ὧδε, τὴν δ᾽ ἄνω κείνην, τὰ χρήσιμ᾽ ἔργα τοῦ τρίτου κρεμαστῆρος ταχέως ἔνεγκ᾽ ἄνωθεν.
Pistos, after opening the top [box/cabinet?]--not the one here, but that one on top--the useful works from the third [shelf?] quickly bring [down] from above.

Hi Wes,

A Google search brought me upon the following webpage: http://heml.mta.ca/lace/sidebysideview2/5055522

This gives πυργῖδα = πυργίσκον which is in Perseus:

http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/mor ... ek#lexicon

κρεμαστῆρος appears to be from κρεμαστήρ : http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/mor ... ek#lexicon

Edit:

Regarding πυργῖδα, seems the LSJ on Perseus is a little out of date.

From my 1996 edition:
πυργίς, ῖδος, ἡ, cupboard, cabinet, Herod.7.15.

The text is on page 47 of that work.
