Ac*****e on the other platform

Post by Stirling Bartholomew »

Is anybody actually using the mac bible research software (you all know what it is called) that now runs native on non-apple platforms? Would be interested in hearing your experience about stability and functionality issues. Is this release a public beta with price tag or an actually fully functional system?

I have friends that use the non-apple platform. They might be tempted to sign-up for an entry level biblical languages package. The problem is the runs-native-on-non-apple-platform could take years to become stabilized and the functional equivalent of the Mac version.

I'm a Windows user on a Mac machine. I do own Accordance, but I haven't installed it on my new computer.
I take it these users are risk-adverse. If that's the case, I might suggest some free options.
I use Logos, which can be installed for free from http://www.logos.com/downloads If they go this route, they can upgrade to a biblical languages package later.
If a web-based solution is acceptable, they might try http://biblearc.com/

Just in case some others might find these useful, I use the following, all of which are free and of good quality:
http://theword.net/ (download; supports regular expression search, and there is a fully portable version that runs from a thumbdrive)
http://unbound.biola.edu/index.cfm?meth ... ncedSearch (online; but the texts are not updated)

Actually they are just short of funds like most bible students. It looks like there are lots of choices, they don't have to get on the endless upgrade treadmill with the big expensive commercial products that have become bloated with unnecessary features and want to sell you everything all over again after five years.

The free web based systems are multiplying. Between STEP and ARC you can do most of what is required for introductory level study of the GNT, LXX and BHS. If you want a big digital library and have lots of money then the big commercial products. But that is overkill for many students who are just learning to read.

I guess no one is using A*********** on running native on Windows. I was really interested in hearing what it was like compared to the now 20yo version running on MacOS.
