I wasn't quite sure where to put this so I've chosen "other" to get things started.
Greek inscriptions provide data for seeing how ancient Greeks were using their own language.
A picture has been posted on the BLC blog of an inscription from the Galilee.

[link has been updated 10June, thank you, Jason, for the head's up, in your note below--RB]
There is some fun stuff in it that touches on several issues, and it is short and fairly straightforward.

That link is broken. Could you fix it?RandallButh wrote:I wasn't quite sure where to put this so I've chosen "other" to get things started.

Re: A Greek Inscription in Galilee
Nice link
That is a good reading of the text, with one correction needed. The phrase in the middle is ΤΗΝ ΤΑΥΤΗΝ ‘this pillared meeting-room’, ‘stoa’
The thread concludes that the tile is reading something like:

member for good and for praise
the greater ??? did/made this 'pillared meeting-room' colonnade of the holy place
praise to him

Re: A Greek Inscription in Galilee
You list 'the greater'. That fits with a new comment.
The grammar strikes a funny-bone in me.

Re: A Greek Inscription in Galilee
I wanted to write more yesterday but because I am a newbie when I accidently hit the submit button I also then realised I can not edit and add more to my posts!!
I am certain that I wanted to point out that:
ΠΡΟΦΟΤΟΥΡΟΣ
[in my opinion]
is a combination of two words not one word, as that forum seems to think.
ΠΡΟ + ΦΟΤΟΥΡΟΣ
infact, I dont even think the latter is one word but also two separate words belonging to separate parts of the sentence. So, my thinking is:
ΠΡΟ + ΦΟΤΟΥ
and ΡΟΣ is for the next part of the sentence.
