This tablet doesn't seem to show the Greek properly.

Here's the script I'll use on Sunday. I think that breaking this up and assigning roles gets away from call-and-response repetition, and from the more boring read-one-sentence-after-another, and it does not take much time. It wouldn't work for all passages, but it does for this one. Adding the roles adds quite a bit of structural clarity without introducing English.

I suspect this might work best if I am ὁ διηγούμενος, or I may let someone whose Greek is pretty good do it while I sit back and relax. But whoever plays this role needs to be able to "run the show".

Some of these techniques take a lot more time than others. Formatting text is quick, and hard to get wrong. Making lists of questions and answers is harder for me currently, because the question/answer form does not make up a lot of the texts I generally read (yeah, I should read more Plato). But I expect to get better at that.

Finding appropriate images takes longer, and it's easy to get lost in that simply because I like looking at pictures. Since I don't have a projector in this classroom, I also have to limit myself to printing the pictures or displaying them on a tablet. Finding 2-3 pictures is reasonable, finding a picture for every concrete noun is not.

I think I need to limit the number of activities that take up the most preparation time, which is a good reason not to introduce too many new techniques in a given week, each technique takes time to master.

Interesting to contrast this with John 19:30:

It is often useful to rephrase things in full clauses when asking questions about a text. In this case one can say
or ὅτε ἐπορεύοντο ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ . . .

If a student asks, then tell them that the meaning is the same with πορευομένων αὐτῶν ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ but this last method is demoted so that attention is on what follows with the main verb.

Yes, that makes sense. I've written some sentences for each segment now, I'm not yet very practiced at writing questions in Greek and I suspect my questions need help, so I'll post them here and see how we can improve them.

I could use some help with questions. When I think like a teacher, I look at the different parts of the sentence and what should be emphasized, and try to turn that into questions. But I'm not at all used to writing Greek questions, and I haven't read a lot of questions in the literature, so I currently wind up writing a lot of my questions in English, then translating them. I suspect that shows badly in places. I'm also not used to formally teaching Greek at all, we've done reading groups rather than language instruction, so I'm not sure the right questions occur to me.

Here's the first section for tomorrow:

Here are some questions for this section - can they be improved? What other questions are worth asking?
  • ποῦ πορεύεσθαι τῶν μαθητῶν;
  • τινές εισιν ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ;
  • πρὸς τίνα εἶπέν ὁ ἄνθρωπος;
  • ὅπου ἀκολουθήσει ὁ ἄνθρωπος τόν Ἰησοῦν;
  • τί ἔχουσιν αἱ ἀλώπεκες; κατασκηνώσεις ἢ φωλεοὺς;
  • τί ἔχουσιν τὰ πετεινὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ; κατασκηνώσεις ἢ φωλεοὺς;
  • ἔχουσιν αἱ ἀλώπεκες φωλεοὺς; ναί ἢ οὔ;
  • ἔχουσιν αἱ ἀλώπεκες κατασκηνώσεις; ναί ἢ οὔ;
  • τίς ἐστιν ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου;
  • ποῦ κλινεῖ ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου;
ἐξίσταντο δὲ πάντες καὶ διηποροῦντο, ἄλλος πρὸς ἄλλον λέγοντες, τί θέλει τοῦτο εἶναι;

Here is the second section, and some questions. Again, how can these questions be improved? What other questions would be good to ask?

Questions:
  • τίς εἶπεν πρὸς τόν ἕτερον;
  • τί εἶπεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς πρὸς τόν ἄνθρωπον ἕτερον;
  • τί θέλει ὁ ἄνθρωπος ποιῆσαι πρῶτον;
  • τί θέλει ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἵνα ὁ ἄνθρωπος ποιῆσαι;
ἐξίσταντο δὲ πάντες καὶ διηποροῦντο, ἄλλος πρὸς ἄλλον λέγοντες, τί θέλει τοῦτο εἶναι;

Here is the third (and last) section, and some questions. Again, how can these questions be improved? What other questions would be good to ask?

Questions:
  • τίς εἶπεν πρὸς τόν ἕτερον;
  • τί εἶπεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς πρὸς τόν ἄνθρωπον ἕτερον;
  • τί θέλει ὁ ἄνθρωπος ποιῆσαι πρῶτον;
  • τί θέλει ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἵνα ὁ ἄνθρωπος ποιῆσαι;
