Exodus 2:10

Post by Saboi »

ἁδρυνθέντος δὲ τοῦ παιδίου εἰσήγαγεν αὐτὸ πρὸς τὴν θυγατέρα Φαραω καὶ ἐγενήθη αὐτῇ εἰς υἱόν ἐπωνόμασεν δὲ τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Μωυσῆν λέγουσα ἐκ τοῦ ὕδατος αὐτὸν ἀνειλόμην

The Septuagint scribe encounters a rare verb and they give a wrong reading.

ἐκάλεσεν ὄνομα αὐτοῦ εἷπεν ὅτι ἐκ τοῦ ὕδατος σώσασα ἄπο-ἐσωσάμην αὐτὸν

The correct verb is ἀποσῴζω, I am not sure how to syll_augment the verb ἐσωσάμην
but the word matches how Μωυσην would be named in Greek.

In the root form, σῴζω is σῶς or σώω, the ζω is prosthetic and other forms include σᾶ, σόοι, “σῶον and σῴην and they many forms of ἀπό, such as ἀπύ, ἀφ’ ἀπ’ but the π as labials is turned into Μ so the name is forms from the compounds, πύ σε > Μσe or Μνσe

In Deuteronomy 15:2, the same type of verb is used in a monetary context "savings, keep safe"
but also as abstract meanings, "keep them in mind, remember'

There is more to the name "Moses"

Deuteronomy 15:1 "At the end of every seven years thou shalt make a release"
μέθ ἑπτὰ ἐτῶν ποιήσεις ἄφεσιν

Exodus 23:11 "but the seventh year thou shalt let it rest"
τῷ δὲ ἑβδόμῳ ἄφεσιν ποιήσεις

ἄφεσιν ποιήσεις appears in Esther 2:18 'ἄφεσιν ἐποίησεν"' and ἄφεσιν translates from והנחה from ἀνοκωχὴν "cessation, armistice" and thus the original intended word is ἀνοκωχὴν in all those verses rather then ἄφεσιν.

ἀνοκωχὴν ποιησάμενοι
http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/tex ... nokwxh%2Fn

ἀνοχὰς ποιήσασθαι
http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/tex ... g=original

This also explains the Doric naming of Noah from ἀνοχάς "Rest"

The Septuagint transliterates Sabbath as σάββατα but the word should be ἑπτάς "period of seven days" and poetically connected with the verb σβέσω "cease, quell, rest", this to do with the pentecontad calendar, seven periods of fifty days, so they added extra periods of seven days to cease the year.

"atzeret" also Doric, from ἄγερσις "festal assembly"

Φαραω in Exodus 2:10 also Doric, from ἔφορος "leaders of ancient Sparta".
סוף "reed" from Doric στιβάς "reeds, rushes" (Exodus 2:3)
הסנה is the Doric ἀκάνθας "thorn, prickle' (Exodus 3:2)
עבדים is the Doric ὀπαδῶν "attendant" (Exodus 21:7)
אמה is doric δμῶα "female slave taken in war" (Exodus 21:7)

The rod of Moses in Exodus 4:2 is a ῥάβδος however the translated word as
triple meanings "staff, branch and tribe", the root of מטה is the Doric, φυσᾷ that binds all the meanings.

Rod described as נחשfrom the Doric, κνακός "pale yellow, tawny"
also the color of brass.

The river in Exodus as the unique name, יאר from the Doric ἱαρά that roots εἶαρ "blood, spring".

ἰατρός "Jethro"
θεράπων τοῦ θεοῦ "Reuel"

-Doric Exodus-
Exodus 14:28 - τάν εἷλαν ἐφορῶ (חיל) "company of soldiers, subdivision of the ἀγέλα "
Exodus 12:17 - τάν σαμεῖαν (צבאם) "body of troops under one standard"
Exodus 14:7 - τριστάτας "vizier"
Exodus 14:20 - σκάναμα "camp" (Doric)
Exodus 6:24 - φαλάκρα, ἐπίκουρος, κοροι "mercenary troops"
Exodus 34:4 - δύο πλάξ (πλαξίν > מלאכים)
Exodus 8:22 - Γύθειον(גשן), ἑρπετά(ערב)
Exodus 12:8 - μᾶζα "spartan bread of slavery"
Exodus 12:22- ὑσσώπου
Exodus 8:16 - τέφρα (עפר) "ashes" (Doric)
Exodus 8:18 - βᾶμα
Exodus 12:45 - ἔθνη Ἀτρείδου
Exodus 13:4 - ἥβα
Exodus 16:38 - χοῖνιξ of ἄμαλλα (עמר), Doric ἀμάω "one man's daily allowance of corn'
