Leacock

Perhaps at first sight, Stephen Leacock's story "Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town" may not seem to have any relevance to the Greek language.
However, the humourist does point out some pitfalls that students of Greek might make.
I am referring to the fourth chapter on "The Ministrations of the Rev. Mr. Drone" where Mr. Drone has a fixation on the Greek texts and abuses it in his preaching.
The whole book is a good read, but I think the fourth chapter is priceless ... and should be required reading for all Greek scholars.
A free copy is available from Gutenberg at http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/3533.
Cheers,

If it saves anyone else any time, I'd demure on the judgment of ch 4 as invaluable. The book may be of curious interest, but there's nothing in ch. 4 that's of any particular value, IMHO, for the study of Greek--not even as motivation for proper use. It's more a parody of an incompetent Anglican minister, who, yes, does profess to "read Greek." His incompetence has little to do with Greek.

FWIW. Your mileage may vary. :)
