Occupy SBL Slogans

Post by Jonathan Robie »

What slogans do you think Occupy SBL should use?

This one comes to mind ...
ἐξίσταντο δὲ πάντες καὶ διηποροῦντο, ἄλλος πρὸς ἄλλον λέγοντες, τί θέλει τοῦτο εἶναι;

Hi, Jonathan,

(people over profits.)
(Yes, we can!)
3. The τί Party.

Cute! (But shouldn't #2 be simply "ναί, δυνάμεθα"?)

Yes, that works fine. The rest of it is an allusion to one of my favorite verses, Phil 4:13

Which I would paraphrase
Yes, HE can!

"πας" cannot be in that position right? And would "ολος" be a more suitable choice? ;)

I could be wrong, but I think that σκήνη πᾶς ὁ βίος was a Greek adage before Shakespeare reforumulated it as "All the world's a stage." I think that πᾶς ὄ κόσμος is a reasonable Greek expression. Cf. Rom 3:19 and Col 1:6.

(Xenophanes, Fragment 16)

Thanks for the help. I being a typical Bible college and seminary student did not get a lot of practice in composition.

Unless I'm mistaken (as I may well be), this would refer to people less than thirty years old. I think that with reference to time, ὑπέρ means "farther back than ... " I'm ready to be corrected on this.
