Rules for normalization of Greek words?

Post by NathanSmith »

Is anyone aware of a documented list of rules for normalizing Greek words? Off the top of my head it would include:
  • Changing grave accents to acute
  • Undoing elision
  • Dealing with movable ν
  • etc.

It depends on what you mean by "normalization." I think Perseus and/or TLG have done work in this area. Perhaps they've posted something pertinent.

Perseus does have a nice list of Greek stop words in the Hopper source code, but I was not able to find anything on normalization at first glance. I'll take a closer look, and also at TLG.

By normalization, I basically mean presenting the form out-of-context, but still declined/conjugated. This is the same as the 3rd word column in the MorphGNT if you are familiar. It's the last step before going to the lexical form.

OK, you'll also have to deal with accent marks generated by enclitics that follow a word.
