Chariton

I have a sophomoric question about the pronunciation of a name. How does
one pronounce the name of the author of _Chaereas and Callirhoe_, Chariton.
My own preference has been to pronounce the "Ch" like that in "Chaldean,"
hence KAR-I-TON or KER-I-TON. However, one of my profs pronounces "Ch" as
in "kitCHen," hence CHAIR-I-TON.
Thanks to anyone for a clarification.
