I can't quite picture this. A voice comes from the throne, telling us
to give praise to God. This voice can't be God, the one who is seated
on the throne. But who else could speak APO TOU QRONOU? I mean,
that's kind of like Dad's armchair, isn't it? Nobody else gets to sit
there? But if nobody else is there, how could they speak from there?

I'd understand this as recalling the throne scene in chapter 4, where
a variety of personages are found in proximity to the throne. In
chapter 5, when the Lamb is introduced, he is portrayed as "standing
in the midst of the throne," which sounds rather odd, but then the
passage goes on "and of the elders and of the four living creatures"
(or something to that effect). So I think the voice from the throne
can simply be a voice from the PROXIMITY of the throne, from one of
the creatures, not necessarily emanating from WITHIN the throne, from
the Creator. By the way, this interpretation also seems consistent
with the use of APO rather than EK as the preposition, though I'd not
want to try to maintain this distinction rigidly throughout the NT.
