Michael, given what Rod has found, if you want to convert from
WordPerfect to something newer, I would suggest checking out the
Star Office suite, which is freely available for Linux and other
platforms. It can read and write bazillions of different doc
formats:

The various formats that Star Office can handle can be viewed at:

   http://www.sun.com/products/staroffice/file.sw.html

Best of all, the software's free.
