Greetings. Normally I lurk on this list. Questions and answers seem more
intelligent than I am. But now I have a question. In reading 1 Corinthians
11, I observe the following sentence. EI DE TIS DOKEI FILONEIKOS EINAI,
hHMEIS TOIAUTHN SUNQEIAN OUK EXOMEN, OUDE hAI EKKLHSIAI TOU QEOU. The
sentence follows a rather extended passage regarding why women should cover
their heads when praying or prophesying and why men should not. Many modern
English translations give a phrase "no other practice" for TOUAUTHN SUNQEIAN
OUK... while a few use the word "such" for SUNQEIAN. BAGD indicates use of
"such." My question is, grammatically (not theologically, as I see both
views clearly represented, along with their arguments), is there a valid
argument for assuming that we have "no such practice" as arguing with the
practice above an argument for assuming that we have "no such practice" as
requiring head covering?
