This isn't quite right. I started my study of the Chomsky ('59, '65) school
of linguistics around 1980. This study was mostly focused on syntax not
lexical semantics. Toward the end of the 80's I started shifting my focus
toward lexical semantics and around 90-91 period I became really seriously
engrossed in a study of the theory.

So I over stated the case. 12 years would be a better number.
