One more comment on Longacre. Chapter seven in his second edition
(Plenum,1996) is on Case Frames. This chapter treats the semantics of verbs
in a systematic way and would be highly relavent to the discussion which has
been transpireing here recently.

I found Longacre's very breif description of Cook's and Hale's functional
taxonomies very helpful, actually more helpful that Longacre's own system
which for my tastes is too complex. The concepts presented in this chapter
are not all that difficult to grasp.
