I am wondering if anyone can shed some light on the two participles that come in the second half of Heb. 10:22. The text says: "Let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled (hRERANTISMENOI) clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed (LELOUSMENOI) with pure water" (NASB). Am I correct in seeing these two participles as causal? This would give the sense, "Let us draw near . . . because our hearts are sprinkled . . . because our bodies are washed . . ." To what do these participles refer? Does it refer to the cleansing we receive at salvation? How are the two related to each other? Jonathan Boyd M.Div student at Faith Baptist Theo.
