A textual variant of Eph 2:17 reads: KAI ELQWN EUHGGELISATO EIRHNHN hUMIN TOIS MAKRAN KAI TOIS EGGUS I have several questions: 1) How are the dative articles to be understood? 2) How do MAKRAN and EGGUS function in the clause? Are they accusatives of the adjectives or are they adverbs? 3) What would be a good translation? "And He came and preached peace to you, the far and the near"??? Thanks for any help.
