John Baptist certainly preached a lot; we have some of his utterances preserved for us in the Gospels (Matthew 3:1-12; Mark 1:3-8; Luke 3:1-18; John 1:19-28). His Elijah-like rebuke of Herod Antipas led to his death (Matthew 14:1-12; Mark 6:14-29). And he dressed like Elijah (Matthew 3:4; compare 2 Kings 1:8). Indeed he "was Elijah" (Matthew 17:12-13; Malachi 4:6) in a manner of speaking.
