Justin and Angelo after Lylla leaves:

                        ANGELO
                You're a lawyer, right?

                        JUSTIN
                Yes, I am.

                        ANGELO
                Trial lawyer?

                        JUSTIN
                Yes.

                        ANGELO
Then that's it. I've seen you in Los Angeles,
                the Fed court.

                        JUSTIN
My firm has had cases in Federal Court there.
What kind of business are you in?

                        ANGELO
                You know Joe Mortelli?

                        JUSTIN
Of course. Are you a friend of his?

                        ANGELO
Big happy family, if you know what I mean.
Hey, it's a small world, right?

                        JUSTIN
                What brings you here?

                        ANGELO
I could ask you the same thing.

                        JUSTIN
I know the family -- Portland's my home town.

                        ANGELO
                How about that?

                        JUSTIN
                And you?

                        ANGELO
We can talk up front, right? I mean, a friend
of Joe is a friend of mine. And vice-versa,
is what I'm asking -- you represent Joe
Mortelli, you got to be on the square. I work
                for Joe myself.

                        JUSTIN
                In what capacity?

                        ANGELO
Hey, that's funny, it really is! I told you,
we're in the same family. You understand me?

                        JUSTIN
                I think so, yes.

                        ANGELO
You ever hear of Angelo DiMarco? -- that's me.

                        JUSTIN
                I'm sorry, the name doesn't ring a bell. I'm
                Justin Brodey.

                        ANGELO
Pleased to meet you. To answer your question,
I'm here because of this here cult, which in
fact is giving my family a bad name. You no
doubt have heard of a certain trial the
                newspapers call "cokescam."

                        JUSTIN
                Yes. We almost got involved.

                        ANGELO
Joe's got every criminal lawyer on the west
coast -- the ones getting big money -- working
for him. Anyway, my brother, by the name of
Nick, is alleged to have joined this here
cult, which is the origin of the "cokescam"
accusations, whereby my good family name is
involved in this here cult as a front for
cocaine racketeering, among other things, only
my brother happens to be dead, his body having
been discovered in the hills in Marin County,
where he liked to get away from it all and
enjoy a little mountain fishing. To make a
long story short, I have a certain friend who
has joined the cult under an assumed name in
order the find the true skinny about what is and
what isn't happening relative to said
racketeering, which would upset me, having the
competition I mean, but also I want to protect
my family's good name and for once and for all
disassociate the DiMarcos, and Nicky, from
this here bunch of religious zealots. In
other words, the DiMarcos are, and always have
been, good Catholics, and all this other,
about Nick, is blastphemy. You understand
                what I'm saying?

                        JUSTIN
Cokescam focuses on the accusation that the
cult has connections with organized crime.

                        ANGELO
Coming from you, this is a surprising way to
                put it.

                        JUSTIN
It's the way the media puts it.

                        ANGELO
The media, of course -- but consider the
source. If you work for Joe and can say
"organized crime" in the same breath, as if
we're talking about a conspiracy here--

                        JUSTIN
Joe once told me he doesn't like the term. I'm
just trying to clarify what cokescam is about,
or at least how it's reported in the media.

                        ANGELO
This is more or less what you said.

                        JUSTIN
And what you're saying is, the alleged
connection specifically involved your late brother.

                        ANGELO
This is the slander I am putting up with. So
you can understand why I want to clear the
                DiMarco name.

                        JUSTIN
Who's your plant in the cult?

                        ANGELO
This, I'm afraid, must remain confidential.
Suffice to say, he is someone who managed to
become a figure of some importance.

                        JUSTIN
Is it someone involved in the wedding?

                        ANGELO
Such a clever deduction, coming from one of
Joe's lawyers, does not surprise me.

                        JUSTIN
I'm here for more than family reasons. I
represent Mrs. Brodey, who's accused -- well,
convicted as well, but we are waiting for a
ruling on the appeal -- of murdering her
husband. As it turns out, the ex-housekeeper
whose testimony is the center of the
prosecutor's case belongs to this very cult --
is the woman who arrived with the bride.

                        ANGELO
This is very funny, in a way. I feel I can
trust you, being as you work for Joe. My man
is the same weirdly attired gentleman who also
                arrived with the bride.

                        JUSTIN
Then he presumably would have gotten to know
Maxine -- that's her name. I would very much
                like to talk to him.

                        ANGELO
                No more than I would.

                        JUSTIN
If you could arrange for me to meet him . . .

                        ANGELO
Like I say, a friend of Joe Mortelli's is a
friend of mine. You want to come
with me, and we'll see if maybe this
crazy wedding is already over . . .?

                                JUSTIN
                Sounds good to me.

They exit, Justin going to A, Angelo getting Wolf
        and going to B. /ex4/ /ex13/ TIME CODE: 27:00
