PROGRESS
By Charles Deemer
Two sides of his property were surrounded by
abandoned apple orchards. Then the land was sold.
One day a great yellow John Deere beast came
and pulled out the trees by the roots. So this is progress, he thought.
A homeless bird landed on his shoulder,
cried, and flew away.
