`HALF-LIFE' IS WHOLE ENTERTAINMENT ``THE HALF-LIFE CONSPIRACY'' \
Oregonian, The (Portland, OR)
February 24, 1989
Author: BOB HICKS of The Oregonian Staff.
Estimated printed pages: 1

Friday and Saturday are your last chances to see Charles Deemer's rude, thoughtful and piercingly funny drama about love and aggression in the nuclear age.

Firehouse Theater's revival of the Portland writer's 1983 play gives it the rough energy and reckless theatricality it deserves, thanks to a fine cast and sensitive direction by Julie Akers.

Deemer uses the conventions of soap opera (sex, disaster, coincidence, betrayal) to make some serious reflections on the differences between men and women, and even throws in a play-within-the-play about a Soviet nuclear strike against Seattle. In an age when most playwrights seem too timid to think on a grand scale, Deemer pushes boldly ahead, yet still tells a tale that has touching and poignant private moments.

``The Half-Life Conspiracy'' concludes with shows at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Firehouse Theater, 1436 S.W. Montgomery St. Tickets are $6-$8.50. Call 280-6592.
