LEAVING

By Charles Deemer

Don’t you know that I’m grieving

Don’t you know I don’t like leaving

Don’t you know it’s hard to walk out that door

All the time we’ve been fighting

All the time I go midnighting

All the time I wonder what’s in store

All the day with my time

All the day with my wine

All the day I think I’ll hit the road

Nights are still when we’re together

Nights are still and like a feather

Nights give under at the slightest load

At what time was our mistake

At what time did our love break

At what time did I get so forlorn

Tomorrow when the moon is wan

Tomorrow, baby, I’ll be gone

Tomorrow all my letters will get torn

I won’t wait to say goodbye

I won’t wait to make you cry

I won’t wait to hear that I should stay

Think of me as something seeming

Think of me as though you’re dreaming

Think of me as one who went away
