Pension
1886 Union veteran's pension application.

"Invalid" means he applied on behalf of himself and does refer to an application because of a disability.

I have been unable to determine the amount Anson Croman received.

Theda Skocpol in "American's first Social Security System: the expansion of benefits for Civil War Veterans"
reports that in 1910 the average payment to men over 65 (Anson was 66 in 1910) receiving a Federal benefit was $186 per year.
