Sutherland Station 2018: The 20th Michigan's Last Civil War Service |
Click for larger format Sutherland Tavern From April 5 until Lee's surrender at Appomattox on April 9, the 20th Michigan was on provost occupation duty at Sutherland Station, its last service in the Civil War. Provost duty was the military police during the Civil War. That duty was to maintain order among the soldiers and civilians. That included occupation duties. |
