We have a number of Spanish language publications in our special order
catalog that pertain to permaculture, a topic a bit broader than those you
mention but possibly of interest. We also list many Spanish-language groups
in the Americas and Spain that would have more of the same in our directory,
TRIP, The Resources of International Permaculture. If I can fit our special
order catalog on the end of this email, I'll do so. Otherwise, I'll add our
regular Yankee Permaculture Order Form and you can order the catalog from it
if you like. I suspect that the catalog is too big for our message field.

PCD-6. Full Permaculture Student Design*, Demonstration Permaculture Farm.
Students at a Permaculture Design Course at Slippery Rock University,
Pennsylvania, produced this design of about 45 pages as part of their course
work. It includes shelterbelts, parking, orchards, livestock, gardens, solar
greenhouse, pond, grain production, and parking for a proposed permaculture
demonstration and education center. The local lake-effect climate receives
only about 90 sunny days yearly. $45.00 + p&h.

PCD-7. Full Permaculture Student Design*, Demonstration & Education Farm,
New Jersey, USA.
A particularly detailed student design treats the development of a model
permaculture farm used as a learning center run by Dominican sisters in rural
New Jersey. A financially self-sustaining market garden is a feature of the
design. Other features include management of pastures, woodlot management,
creation of saddle dams, and economic evaluations. Not included is the
instructor's treatment of supplemental energy production in case a potter
establishes at the farm. Almost 100 pages, $50.00 + p&h.

PCD-8. Student Permaculture Designs*, Urban Demonstration & Education Site,
Florida, USA.
Subtropical Florida has particular problems and opportunities explored in
these student permaculture designs, including a mandala-shaped pond design by
instructor Dan Hemenway. The site is about a half-acre urban lot with an
old, two-story home converted into a health food store. In the rear of the
lot, a demonstration and education permaculture, edible landscape, and native
plants park has been designed, including a demonstration solar pump which
powers a fountain in the pond. Wildlife habitat, energy conservation and
recovery, and programs for health and environmental education are among other
features of these designs. The first design was produced by a Permaculture
Design Course class in 1991 and the second by a 1993 PDC class. The second
group has the opportunity to observe the effectiveness of original design
features implemented as well as to evaluate which design recommendations were
ignored and, perhaps, why. $35.00 + P&H each or $50.00 + P&H for the set.

DB-10-A. TRIP, The Resources of International Permaculture.
TRIP is our directory of organizations concerned with sustainable habitation
of Earth. TRIP entries may be accessed by country, by post code in some
countries (notably the US and Canada), and by category. Since each group is
assigned only one category and some groups span categories, a search will not
always identify every group concerned with a particular theme. Categories
which can be searched are Permaculture Publications, Permaculture Centers,
Bioregional Groups, Greens/Green Politics, Alternative Economics, Sustainable
Food Systems, Urban Sustainability, Forest/Tree Concerns, Ecology/Earth
Defense, Earth Spirituality, Appropriate Technology, Genetic Resources,
Herb-related Groups and other Permaculture -Related Groups. We recommend
that you first buy the print version of TRIP to see if you can get the
information you seek more simply and economically. TRIP Volume V was
published in the spring of 1993 with some 1540 entries. A print update
service for TRIP V is now available. The TRIP database is on Filemaker
Pro(TM), and may be purchased in that program for $50 + P&H on 3.5-inch
disks for Macintosh. TRIP can also be purchased in some PC formats. Use the
At this date, the database contains about 1800 entries. The list is verified
and corrected by regular mailings.

MAIL-11. Mailing Services.
We have put considerable money and energy into developing our mailing lists
of people with an interest in permaculture and allied subjects. To recover
some of our investment and avoid holding a "monopoly" on these lists, we
offer to use them to send mailings for compatible groups and individuals. We
will bulk mail to selected portions of our proprietary mailing list at
$0.35/address for a minimum of 200 addresses or $0.75/ address for smaller
quantities. Your literature goes out in our wrapper so we can obtain address
corrections from the post office. We will also mail for $1.00/address to
Canada or Mexico, and $2.00/address to other countries in mailings of less
than 1 oz. We do not sell or rent our mailing lists. We reserve the right
to refuse specific mailings on the basis of content or of our work schedule.

class addressed difficult problems directly and comes up with some sound
solutions to a less-than-ideal (and therefore typical) site. Because there
was no previous building on this site, the class had a "blank slate" in which
to develop a design for the family, food systems, water supply, fire
protection, recreation and so forth, tailoring the approach that the family
of four that was building its home there. About 47 pages, $23.00 + p&h. The
text portion of the design, but not illustrations and appendices, is
available on computer disk at $10 for Macintosh formats or $15 for DOS

SD-45. Standard Design: An Open Siphon Irrigation System, by Dan Hemenway
Based on actual design consultation, this system uses gravity and siphon
principles to spot-irrigate on contour and to disperse catchment overflow. It
works to permit avoid back-pressure when high catchments and lower
catchments feed the same irrigation system. In addition to distributing
catchment overflow (as from root catchment when cisterns are full), the
system perfectly suits gravity irrigation from high water storages when
needed. It includes contour swales that catch surface runoff. Designed for a
farm on soil with exceptionally high rates of percolation, features of the
system apply to irrigation of more normal soils where inexpensive,
maintenance-free, highly efficient irrigation is required. No emitters are
required and line pressure is low. Maintenance is limited to initial
adjustments of the irrigation ports to achieve optimum flow for crop and
water supply conditions and to remove debris that could partially restrict
water flow. (This can be done by walking down the line with a broom.) Water
is delivered to target plants without waste and evaporation losses are very
low, especially if used in conjunction with mulch, as designed. On disk
(PICT) or hard copy, [write for price] + P&H.

SP. 46 How to Live--Free at Last by Dr. P. ffyske Howden. This book offers
"great escape into genteel frugality + vehicle for $28 weekly on 1/4 acre -
or in an apartment?" "Spend only 2 hours weekly working at home life-support
systems.... Choosing a site wisely, afford a big quality $13,000 kit home.
Liberate yourself from boring drudgery into relaxed creativity with cleverly
reduced housework, using alternatives & by growing only multi-use tree
veggies, planting a mere 4 trees monthly including natives, many outside
front fences." We find this to be a valuable source of ideas, inventions,
standard designs, and inspiration for permaculture design and living.
Australian print version, 120 pages. (US page format will be more.) Computer
disk, MAC versions: Microsoft Word, Macwrite or TEXT, $25 base price + P&H
(See disk rate sheets for other formats.) Print-out or photocopy (our
option), $35.00 + P&H. Australians order directly from the author at Back
Yard Tech Enterprises, Cone St., Macleay Island QLD 4184.

SP. 47 Cornucopia - A Source Book of Edible Plants by Stephen Facciola.
This 676 large-format page book lists about 3,000 plant species useful as
food and provides detailed cultivar listings for more than 110 cultivated
crops. The book furnishes botanical listings by family of vascular plants,
fungi, algae, and bacteria, a special section of cultivar listings, a
cross-referenced list of sources where materials described can be obtained,
an index of species native or naturalized to North America, an Index of
species not listed in Kunkeel, a general index of families and genera, and
appendices of abbreviations, for type of product offered, bibliographical
citations, and descriptions for plant sources. Fascinating reading in its own
right, Cornucopia is an invaluable tool for permaculturists for such
purposes as finding sources of "obscure" species, identifying food uses of
plants on site, and determining additional uses for food plants. We regard
this as an essential book for every permaculture library. Formerly listed on
the regular Yankee Permaculture, we appear to have saturated our market for
this text. It is too important to abandon, so we still offer it through
special order. Print version, $43 + p&h. Computer disk Windows format, $72 +
p&h. [We do not generate these disks in-house, so our usual disk terms do
not apply.]

SP. 48 Future Sustainable Homes by Dr. P. ffyske Howden. From the abstract:
"There are civilized ways to live sustainably on less than $25 weekly,
including light transport, by simply redesigning, reconfiguring or rechoosing
most of one's home life support systems. Such Sustainable Home Engineering
(S.H.E.), perhaps the human domestic side of mathematics and science, is an
easy option for colleges, research institutes, companies and village
industries - especially those that can ill afford conventional 'engineering'
- to develop the 100+ items, procedures and inventions required.
"For appropriate ECO-logistical products to be acceptable would involve
re-education into Making, Fixing, Growing (an edible jungle), comfortable
Frugality, Survival, Cottage Industries, Bush Doctoring and Lateral Ingenuity
in an Optimized manner to achieve a desirable percentage of
self/mutual-reliance; whether home is a small block or an apartment.
"Applying multi/inter-disciplinary ideas and skills has proven successful
at the author's open home on only 0.1 hectare, where effort is carefully
minimized. Sketches support that S.H.E. insures against: hunger and poor
health; 'chemical' fertilizers and loss of land/quality; drought, flood,
pollution and pests; transport, energy and product failures; shortages,
export/import failures, inflation and siege economy; boredom and apathy;
unemployment, strikes, political disagreements, war and refugee starvation."
Computer disk, MAC versions: Microsoft Word, Macwrite or TEXT, $25 base
price + P&H (See disk rate sheets for other formats.) Print-out or photocopy
(our option), $35.00 + P&H. Australians order directly from the author at
