    Rear Admiral Daniel E. Barbey, USN,

    Commander, 13th Naval District

    Joins Mayor John Anderson of Tacoma, Washington, and members of the ship's crew at a meal in the crew's mess of USS Rendova (CVE-114), on 3 January 1951. Rendova was recommissioned on that day for Korean War service.

    USS Naifeh (DE-352)


    Crew salutes the National Ensign as Naifeh is recommissioned for Korean War service, at San Diego, California, 26 January 1951.
    Her Commanding Officer is Lieutenant Commander Cornelius J. Smits.
    Note 20mm guns in protective fabric covers on Naifeh's after deck.
    Escort Ships (DE) and Fast Transports (APD) laid up in reserve in the background are identified in Photo # 80-G-427319 (Complete Caption).

    USS Lewis Hancock
    (DD-675)

    Officers and crew members salute as the National Ensign is raised during recommissioning ceremonies at Long Beach Naval Station, California, on Armed Forces Day, 19 May 1951.
    Participating in the ceremonies (though not visible in this photograph) was Lewis Hancock's Sponsor, Captain Joy Bright Hancock, USN(W), Director of Women Personnel. The ship was named in honor of her late husband, Lieutenant Commander Lewis Hancock, Jr., USN, who lost his life when the airship USS Shenandoah (ZR-1) crashed on 3 September 1925.

    USS Iowa (BB-61)


    Men come aboard the battleship from USNS General Daniel I. Sultan (T-AP-120) at San Francisco Naval Shipyard, California, on 19 August 1951. Iowa was then preparing to recommission for Korean War service.
    The man in the center is MM3c H.G. Fraser.

    USS Pittsburgh (CA-72)


    Crewmen slip anchor stoppers in preparation for anchoring. On the order "let go", the anchor detail will knock out the single remaining stopper with a sledge hammer, starting the anchor on its way.
    Pittsburgh is at the Puget Sound Navy Yard, Bremerton, Washington, during her initial post-reactivation trials, circa September 1951. She was recommissioned on 25 September.

    The original print is dated 28 November 1951, the day Baltimore was recommissioned, but was probably taken somewhat earlier.
