5-inch/38 caliber dual-purpose gun mounted on the ship's after starboard gun platform, looking aft and to starboard. Photographed at the Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Company on 27 September 1937.
Note fuze-setting mechanism on the gun mount's left side and non-skid rubber matting on the deck.
