"Aircraft Carrier Study - Scheme "B""

Preliminary design plan prepared for the General Board during the process that led to the armored flight deck Midway (CVB-41) class.
This plan, dated 10 December 1940, depicts a 38,500-ton (standard displacement) 900-foot (between perpendiculars) ship with a lightly armored flight deck. Gun battery was sixteen 6"/47 guns (four dual-purpose twin mounts and eight single-purpose single mounts). Hull was narrow enough to allow passage through the Panama Canal.
Scale of the original drawings is 1/32" = 1'.

The original plan is in the 1939-1944 "Spring Styles Book" held by the Naval Historical Center.
