USS Pocomoke (SP-265, later YT-43), 1917-1922.
Originally the civilian trawler Pocomoke (1902)

Pocomoke, a 139-ton "Menhaden Fisherman" type trawler, was built at Pocomoke City, Maryland, in 1902. She was purchased by the Navy on 8 June 1917. Commissioned on 29 June as USS Pocomoke (SP-265), she was employed as a minesweeper in the waters of the Second Naval District (southern New England) during the remainder of World War I. From 1919 onwards, Pocomoke served along the U.S. and Mexican west coast. She was designated YT-43 in July 1920, when the Navy implemented its hull number system, indicating that she was now classified as a tug. USS Pocomoke was decommissioned in December 1921 and sold at San Francisco, California in May 1922

This page features the only view we have concerning USS Pocomoke (SP-265, later YT-43).
