USS Vision (SP-744), 1917-1919.
Later renamed SP-744

USS Vision, a 45-foot motor boat, was built at Watervliet, New York, in 1916 as a pleasure craft. She was leased by the Navy in July 1917 for World War I use and placed in commission at that time. Her name was later changed to SP-744 to avoid confusion with another craft of the same name. During 1917 and much of 1918 the boat was employed on patrol service in the vicinity of Newport, Rhode Island. She was sent south to Miami, Florida, in mid-1918, and operated there until January 1919, when she was decommissioned and returned to her owner.

This page features our only view of USS Vision (SP-744), which was later renamed SP-744.
