USS Zeelandia (ID # 2507), 1918-1919.
Previously S.S. Zeelandia (Dutch Passenger Ship, 1910)

S.S. Zeelandia, a 7995 gross ton (11,500 tons displacement) passenger ship, was built at Glasgow, Scotland, in 1910 for commercial operation under the Dutch flag. She was taken over by the U.S. Government in March 1918 and early in the following month placed in commission as USS Zeelandia (ID # 2507), a troop transport. As part of the great effort to carry an American army to the European war zone, she made five trips to France, transporting over 8,000 passengers. After the 11 November 1918 Armistice, Zeelandia continued her trans-Atlantic service, this time bringing nearly 16,000 troops home and taking more than 3,000 passengers eastbound in the course of seven more round-trip voyages. Her seagoing Naval service concluded at the end of July 1919 and, in early October of that year, USS Zeelandia was decommissioned and returned to her Dutch owners.

This page features all the views we have concerning USS Zeelandia (ID # 2507) and the civilian passenger ship Zeelandia.
