Not all organophosphates ar nerve gasses!
Roundup isn't. Nor is ATP.

My wife and I spent a good few hours hoeing last year
but that is not the point - the continuous tilling
for weed control was destroying the soil. I am looking
for a sustainable way and it seems to me chemicals,
however repugnant, may be a part of that way. Mulch
must also be part of the solution but where do I get it?

If this was a factor, I would not be growing grapes
or anything else. We made 40% minimum wage for our
efforts last year, before including previous losses,
capital depreciation or (heaven defend us) return on
investment. Fortunately, I have a pension!

I disagree, as you might expect. I maintain that the
point is arguable; the cost-benefit analysis may well
be in favour of some use of Roundup.

Good idea. I think this newsgroup is an appropriate
place to post such things. I am posting
"Weedy organic grapevines"
and
"Is mulch sustainable?"
Helpful comments especially appreciated.
