SUER-WG on SUER-REQ@NCATFYV.UARK.EDU Sustainable Use of Ecosystem Resources
Working Group of The Wildlife Society

SUER-WG is a moderated list for those members of The Wildlife Society
that wish to participate in the Sustainable Use of Ecosystem
   Resources Working Group.

Wildlife populations are increasingly impacted by activities that
in the past have been outside the province of resource managers.
World population growth and development are generating unprecedented
pressures on wildlife and its habitats; in addition, pollution and
global perturbations such as ozone depletion and climatic change
threaten wildlife. It is becoming increasingly imperative that
professionals concerned with wildlife address these issues.

This working group will provide a forum for TWS members to
investigate the related issues of multiple use and
sustainable development of natural resources. The topics
investigated will depend upon the interests of Working
Group members and might include the impacts of grazing, timber
harvest, agriculture, water allocation, mining, tourism,
industrial development, and other activities. Both domestic
and international policies and programs will be considered.
The emphasis will be on identifying approaches that use
natural resources in ways which are compatable with the
   maintenance of viable wildlife populations.

The concerns of this group intersect with but are distinct
from the concerns of the Wildlife Economics Working Group
and the Biodiversity Working Group, also under The Wildlife
Society. We anticipate that interactions with members of
these Working Groups will be mutually beneficial.

No formal archives are as yet in place for SUER-WG, but archives
will be maintained privately and may be requested from the
listowner. Automated listserver and full archive services are
expected to be made available later in the year.

Requests to be added or deleted to this list should be sent to

       SUER-REQ@NCATFYV.UARK.EDU.

Subscriptions are handled manually at this time. Digest is
available from same address, please state that you want the
