Cary says, "while it would be acceptable to sell compost at a farmer's
market, it would hardly be economical." Other vendors would be
better customers for compost at a farmers' market than the
food-product consumers attending. Compost producers are increasingly
marketing products at California farm and farm equipment shows to
interest farmers, both sustainable and conventional, in the benefits
of compost. Compost samples are displayed to illustrate products'
look, feel, and smell. Composters take orders or make contacts for
future sales--they don't ususally bring product to sell at the shows.
