Permaculture weekend courses (was Re: class time)
Hi Cameron-
it's rick who's done the distilled evaluations rather than me- I was
replying to Rick's mail but for for some reason the little arrows that
indicate quotes didn't come out in my reply- I have however pasted in below
a couple of sylabus's for intro. courses I've been involved in running, and
hope these will be of some use to you-
I've also forwarded this to Permaculture & UK Permaculture as parts of this
might be of general PC interest...
Cheers,

NB. In retrospect I feel we tried to pack in too much with the above weekend
course- we actually had to set up an extra day a few weeks later to include
practical stuff, though luckily all the participants were local (it was set
up and run through the LETS system)......... Later courses reduced and
simplified this content....
The next course which I have pasted in was run about a year later and had a
far more specialist theme/audience, thus it was perhaps more apppropriate to
provide an intensive content. However, it still turned out that we had tried
to pack in too much, some of the late afternoon Sunday sessions had to be
dropped as people had had enough and basically wanted to just chill out on
the lawn after lunch- we put this to a class vote- overwhelmingly this is
what the participants wanted. I suspect far more was learned through the
informal chatting that took place in this situation anyway. We have
certainly learned that the social/informal side of our courses, eg,
preparing group meals, break times, evening chats in the pub, etc, are just
as valuable and creative than the 'formal' learning situations....
