There has been an all out war on mesquite for some years in Texas and New
Mexico supposedly to increase grazing - what has happened in fact is a loss
of grazing because the various methods (including defoliants) has just
destroyed the tree form of mesquite and it suckers out over a much larger
area than it occupied before.
