The wood also makes furniture; the nectar, honey. 
I'd not think allelopathic interactions are that likely; could the
suppression of native bush be due to superior water uptake by Prosopis? I
have seen amzingly deep roots- 60 feet and still descending! Check recipes
from Peru- they'll use syrup from pods in popsicles and mixed drinks.
