Cooperative
for Public Understanding

Goal: Centralize
access to public knowledge.
There are many
organizations and web sites that have, at least in part,
a goal of bringing knowledge to the public. But there are so many
organizations, and they are all over the place, with no central way to
find them.
The Collaboration provides
the central way to find all these
organizations through this
web site and a
newsletter.
This is not a directory
like google, but a collaboration. Organizations
join this cooperative because they believe that knowledge leads to
understanding, which leads to action.
When organizations join CPU, they help public understanding by:
- Keeping us up to date on their reports and publications,
which we will include in our newsletter.
- Listing a link to the CPU on their web site, helping to make
organizations easy to find.
- Publishing reports and papers that are easy for the public
to understand.
The CPU is a non partisan project, and does not support or endorse any
political agenda or point of view, other than the belief that bringing
knowledge to the public is important. This project does not receive any
funds from anyone, and has no financial ties to any organization,
project or group. (Although in the future, the CPU will apply for
funding from several grant giving organizations.)
(Eventually the CPU would
do other things, like produce reports,
commission papers, develop guidelines of how knowledege might be best
presented, recruit writers, other stuff to be thought of.)
