Take Rt. 40 east to Durham Freeway North. Take exit 8 (Ellis Rd.) make a right turn at exit ramp light. Follow to Miami Blvd. Make a left onto Miami Blvd. Pass through two traffic lights (stay to the right side when crossing over Rt. 70) and make your first right turn onto Sharon Rd.-Stay on Sharon Rd (long time) untill traffic light. At traffic light and you will make a right turn onto Wake Forest Rd. Look for School on the left side about a 1/2 mile.

Program Title: Recreating the Marcado, Spanish Market; Latin Culture Music and Art. Directions:

Session one: 8:00am-9:15am in the gym for 350 students.

Topics: Explain, show, provide examples of what a marcado is in Latin countries 2. Talk about how it functions, and its role in Latin History. 3. Educate on the concept of bartering and exchange also how to bargain. 4. Talk about Latin culture, art and music 5. Provide a Dance or Music event.

Background info: Slides, music and if possible speakers wearing some traditional costumes. Items that would be regularly sold at a Marcado.

Audience participation: Neil students will do an example of a ³Paseo² Speakers need to provide some information on dating costumes, historical and current.

 

Part Two: In the recreated marketplace: Set-up exhibit tables, and items for sale tables. 60 kids and 4 teachers will be at each session to look, talk, purchase goods. Can we provide a roaming singer or musician at the end of each session. Great to have vendors in costume. etc., We need to provide vendors or people who could exhibit items from Latin countries

Much of this will be done by Neil students. They will build the Marcado, fountain and scenery.
