Curvature Module

Designing with Parabolas

Even though the parabolas shown to the right have very different orientations and sizes, they all have basically the same shape. This makes them very inflexible and difficult to design as you can find out in the discover section.

The Difficulty with Parabolas

When designing car profiles, certain constraints must be met and this impacts what type of curve is used and a single parabola may not suffice. The inflexibility of parabolas can be explained using the mathematical concept of curvature, and this will lead us to determine exactly what additional flexibility is needed.
