yes the splits are on the south side but they are alll near the ground- 3 or 4 inches up from ground level and then continuing up the trunk. One could describe the bark as papery and light brown but I would thing the prime descriptive word would be curled bark. Mike "H.Dessureault" wrote: Could it be sun burned?
