Hi Lon,

Sounds like you and the kitten are being too kind.  Found a
web page and it suggests acid/alkaline stony gravel as their
favorite soil.

Sounds like an "ecto" myco. fungi candidate. (smile)

So possibly the kitten was just trying to improve soil
compaction.
