[nafex] Deno method

Brian,

>What a fascinating piece of information! By the way, what is the "Norm
>Deno" method?

In 1993 Norm Deno, a retired chemistry professor at Penn State,
self-published a book, "Seed Germination Theory and Practice". He has
since published two supplements (1996, 1998) that cover germination of many
species beyond the 2500 in the original book. The books have helped me to
understand germination requirements and to germinate some very recalcitrant
seeds, such as the Carolina Silverbell (Halesia caroliniana). His
"method" is to place the seed on a moist paper towel in a sandwich baggie
(not ziploc) and stand them on edge either at 70-80`F or at 38-40`F for
specific periods of time, It is very quick and easy to check the condition
of the seed and to pot them up as soon as they start to sprout. A few
years ago Deno's phone # was 814-238-8770 at 139 Lenor Drive, State
College, PA, 16801.
